Biography

From a small, rural town in Bertie County, NC, Dr. Gilchrist, high school class valedictorian, graduated with a well-formulated philosophy regarding the health and well being of the citizens of her surrounding communities. Her desire to improve the standard of life of others, and the lack of quality medical care, contributed significantly to her career goal to become a medical doctor.

In pursuit of her goal, she completed undergraduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Radiologic Science. After graduation, she was employed at Duke University Medical Center as a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) specialist for a short period before entering medical school at The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. Dr. Gilchrist also completed a residency in Pediatrics at Vidant Medical Center/The Brody School of Medicine.

Allergy and Immunology was nurtured while completing rotations with an engaging community allergist in Greenville, NC, and while completing a four-week rotation at USF in Tampa, Florida. Dr. Gilchrist comes to Carolina Asthma and Allergy Center after completing a fellowship in Allergy-Immunology at Augusta University in Augusta, Georgia. As an allergist, she embraces continuous study to improve the quality of life for her patients by providing them the best and most appropriate medical care.

Dr. Gilchrist has a published manuscript in Current Allergy and Asthma Reports, “B Cell Disorders in Children: Part I.”

Leisurely, Dr. Gilchrist is a workout enthusiast and commits to a daily regimen of exercise. She enjoys playing tennis and bike riding. She treasures time spent with her husband Willie, and daughter, Weslee.

Dr. Gilchrist is Awesome. I came with a chronic cough that I had for over a year in a half. Dr.Gilchrist just seem to know exactly what to do after I had been to several doctors. Now I'm doing a little better the coughing has stopped, because she prescribed the right medication that would help me and not all of the steroids that the other doctors was given me. I never saw a doctor with so many 5 star ratings. I’m pretty sure that’s all I found for her. I had my visit today and now I know why! I’d give her a million stars if I could. She took the time to get to know me and my overall history with dealing with allergies. She tailored my testing fit my needs and identified many things I didn’t even know I was allergic to. She even took down information to do more research on something I think may be allergic to (a certain metal) to find out if the product I’m using contains the metal! By far one of the best Doctors! She is so personable, professional, patient, solution focused, knowledgeable and remembers the small details! Dr. Gilchrist recently saw my teen daughter, who is a patient at Carolina Asthma and Allergy, but had also been sick for several weeks with severe ear infection and persistent cold/viral symptoms. Dr. Gilchrist asked a lot of questions about her previous care, and provided a thorough check of my daughter's ears and breathing. Dr. Gilchrist is truly kind and caring, and she was the only one of 4 medical practitioners (two prior urgent care and primary care visits) who recommended a follow up with an ENT as it looked like my daughter's ear drum had burst. My daughter said she wished Dr. Gilchrist could be her doctor for everything, not just allergies and asthma!

I met Dr. Gilchrist for the first time earlier this morning and honestly she is one of the best doctors I’ve ever had a visit with! I’ve had severe reactions for months and my primary care doctors have been no help. I’ve been desperate for some type of relief, and after visiting her, she finally gave me the answers and solutions I had been looking for. I explained how frustrated I was being a young adult and feeling like nobody believes me when I explain my symptoms to them, but she made sure I knew she believed me. I searched this dr out for a second opinion after being on sinus infection medicine once every 3 months and being told there was nothing wrong with me. She was so thorough. Come to find out, I’m highly allergic to garlic, and 2 out of 3 allergic to Bermuda grass. The grass makes complete sense, because I didn’t have this problem until I moved into a new home where all the sod is Bermuda grass. I’m finally going to get some relief and I’m not crazy. She is a God send, and her nurse is amazing too. This should be your choice

The best doctor ever. As my daughter is allergic to many things, we got meetings with different doctors and facilities. I’m glad we finally met Ms. Gilchrist. And the Carolina asthma and allergy center the place I would recommend to everyone who struggle with allergy. We changed Piedmonthealth allergy center to CAAC for the best!

Dr. Gilchrist was absolutely superb! After my bad experience at Atrium, she completely restored faith in my daughter's treatment for her year round allergies. She was very empathetic, and was super sweet! My daughter took a liking to her immediately. She made babygirl feel completely at ease and explained results in detail for my daughter to wrap her head around. I would recommend Dr. Gilchrist to ANYONE suffering from allergies or asthma. She is definitely what we look for when we think of a Doctor. Would give her 10 stars if i could!! Thank you Dr. Gilchrist!!!

I cannot say enough about how pleased I am with Dr. Gilchrist. As a new resident in the Charlotte area, my wife and I searched for the right doctor to help me manage my asthma. Managing my asthma is a team effort, with me taking the lead and my doctor coaching me. Therefore, my asthma doctor is incredibly important to me. After searching and researching, my wife and I found Dr. Gilchrist. Though her office was a little further than I wanted to drive, after being seen by her, I would drive 100 miles to see Dr. Gilchrist. Dr. Gilchrist took her time and treated me as if I was the only patient she had that day. She asked high value questions to understand my history and my present. She also asked thought-provoking questions to help identify my future goals. She then made recommendations. Her recommendations were strong and straight forward, but not in an arm-twisting, use of fear kind of way. Dr. Gilchrist is excellent and she has gained a patient for life. Wherever Dr. Gilchrist goes, I will follow because she is that physician that people of my generation used to know - the ones that are in medicine because they truly care and want to make a difference in the lives of their patients. In the day of insurance companies and benefits plans dictating time and access to doctors, Dr. Gilchrist's manner resonates with me and I appreciated her care, concern, and thoroughness. I recommend her highly and cannot find the adjectives to adequately describe this excellent doctor.
